Wind Ensemble
The LSU Wind Ensemble is the select concert organization of the LSU Band Department, and is comprised of the finest wind and percussion students in the School of Music, primarily graduate students and upperclassmen.
The programs of the LSU Wind Ensemble reflect great variety and a high level
of musicianship. The musical repertoire includes highly regarded original
band works as well as significant works from the chamber wind repertoire.
In addition to its regular series of campus concerts each year, the Wind
Ensemble tours and performs at both regional and national music conventions.
In March 2006, the LSU Wind Ensemble was featured in performance at the
American Bandmasters Association convention in Richardson, Texas.
Auditions for Wind Ensemble are held three days before the beginning of
classes in the fall semester. Audition music is available in the Band Office,
three days before auditions begin. Auditions are open to all interested
students. The Wind Ensemble performs three concerts in the fall semester
and three in the spring semester. The group meets Monday through Friday
for 50 minutes (12:40-1:30 pm). Enrollment averages 55-60 musicians each
year. This ensemble is conducted by Director of Bands, Frank Wickes.
