Scholarships

There are different types of scholarships available to both music majors and non-majors. These include fall service awards of $1,000 for participation in the Tiger Marching Band as well as a limited number of scholarships which cover up to full tuition (in-state and out-of-state). For Louisiana residents, the Louisiana Tuition Opportunity Program (TOPS) is available to qualified students. It is one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation. For out-of-state students, we offer very competitive LSU School of Music tuition waivers for music majors. You can read more about our scholarships below.

Music Activity Awards
Selected top-level musicians who major in music, and who participate in either Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, or Orchestra during the fall and spring semesters, are eligible for a $2,000 award. This award, given by the Associate Dean of the College of Music and Dramatic Arts, is paid over the fall and spring semesters and is based on a successful application and audition.

Band Department Scholarships
Selected top-level musicians who participate in one or more Band Department ensembles may be awarded a Band Department Scholarship. A limited number of these scholarships are awarded to students based on the needs of the Band Department. These scholarships are generally reserved for music majors.

Tiger Marching Band Activity Awards
Students selected for membership in the LSU Tiger Marching Band are eligible to receive a $1,000 award. This award is given to all members––Instrumentalists, Colorguard and Golden Girls.

Band Student Staff Work Scholarships
Students in the LSU Bands may qualify for a staff work scholarship. These awards are generally reserved for experienced bandsmen. Recipients are paid an hourly wage according to a prescribed work schedule.
