Eric Melley
Assistant Director of Bands
is in his first year on staff with Louisiana State University. Previously he served as Director of Bands at Belmont High School (Massachusetts), where his ensembles performed for audiences in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Salzburg, and consistently earned superior ratings at regional and national festivals. Mr. Melley holds the Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance and education from the University of Massachusetts, the Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University in Wind Conducting, and is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting degree from Arizona State University. Mr. Melley has served as the Assistant Director of the Maudslay Arts Center Concert Band in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States.
Active as a freelance trumpet player, Mr. Melley's performance credits include a
performance for Pope John Paul II at World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, Canada. He is a 3-time Downbeat Award winner, and a 1995 Grammy All-American. In the summer of 2007, Mr. Melley was selected to take part in the National Band Association International Conducting Symposium in Canford, England and in 2009 conducted the United States Military Academy Band at the First Annual West Point Conductors' Symposium. He holds honorary memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Kappa Kappa Psi.
