Linda R. Moorhouse
Associate Director of Bands
Appointed to the LSU music faculty in 1985, Dr. Moorhouse conducts the LSU
Symphonic Winds, and is Co-Director of the LSU Tiger Marching Band, where
she serves as the primary instructor, overseeing administrative activities
in addition to drill and show design. In addition, Dr. Moorhouse teaches
courses in undergraduate conducting, and is the faculty advisor and a Member
Laureate of Sigma Alpha Iota, international fraternity for women in
music.
Dr. Moorhouse is a past recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award
from the LSU School of Music, as well as, the Scroll of Excellence,
Silver Baton and International Golden Rose awards from the
Women Band Directors International. In 2003 she received the Phi Beta Mu
Outstanding Bandmaster Award for Louisiana, and in May 2006 she received
LSU's Tiger Athletic Foundation President's Award, a campus-wide
award, for teaching excellence. She has also been recognized by Who's
Who Among America's Teachers.
Outside LSU, Dr. Moorhouse maintains an active schedule having appeared
as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States,
and in Japan, Western Europe and Canada. An elected member of the American
Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu, she serves as Immediate Past President
and Executive Secretary of the National Band Association. A Past President
of the Women Band Directors International, Dr. Moorhouse also serves on
the Sudler Committee of the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
In addition, Dr. Moorhouse has served as a Research Associate for three
volumes of the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series
(GIA Publications). She is a contributing author for three books: A Composer's
Insight–Thoughts, Analysis and Commentary on Contemporary Masterpieces
for Wind Band (Volumes 2 and 3), and The Music Directors Cookbook,
all published by Meredith Music. In addition, she is a past editor of
The Woman Conductor, the official journal of the Women Band Directors
International.
Dr. Moorhouse received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University
of Florida, a Master of Music Education from LSU, and a Doctor of Musical
Arts in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Washington.
